Forum:Setting expectations
[edit] Setting expectations
The reception of Wikia Search will depend heavily on whether it meets the users' expectations, and whether the users meet the providers' (for lack of a better term) expectations. Shaping these expectations is therefore a success factor.
Since the project is young and developing, there are necessarily limitations and other issues. Some of these are already acknowledged on the Search wiki home page. However, more of these should be documented.
There should be dedicated pages to set the user's expectations
- of the search engine,
- of the project as a whole and
- of the wiki.
These pages should also document what is expected of the users.
This page is intended to mainly talk about how to shape the expectations. Ideally, the expectations themselves are documented on other pages, for example policies and guidelines and User expectations. These pages should someday be easily reachable from the search home page.
It would be useful to encourage further reactions on these points on the talk page. A few items for discussion have already been listed.
[edit] Commercial subjects
[This section has been moved to search:Mini article/Policy discussion#Commercial subjects.]
[edit] Collectively constructing knowledge
Jeanpol has written a few paragraphs about his expectations regarding the collective construction of knowledge. This page here is more about how to set expectations than about the expectations themselves. Since the collective construction of knowledge is largely a topic of its own, I moved these sections to a new forum entry, Forum:Collectively constructing knowledge.
