search:Canonical site

Generally, extensive links to external sites are discouraged in mini articles; however, links to canonical sites are appropriate. A canonical site is a website which contains authoritative information about a subject.

[edit] Example

[edit] Canonical site for the Concorde SST

  • ConcordeSST.Com, "This is the only Concorde website on the 'net' to bring together all the information on the world's most famous and recognisable aeroplane into one place. From Concorde's origins to where you can visit them today, it is all here in one place."

[edit] Canonical site for installation artist Liz Cohen

  • Directory:Liz Cohen, while a wiki site, this "Directory" page was commissioned by the artist and is the only one-stop page on the Internet that showcases her biography, photos and a video of her work, and an audio interview with the owner of the shop where she is working.

[edit] Nature of a canonical site

The touchstone of a canonical site is lots of reliable information on a topic. It need not be the best site, or the most objective site but it should deliver the goods to a substantial fraction of likely searchers.

[edit] More controversial examples

These examples take the point of view of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but contain significant information searchers are likely to be looking for:
